Silicon Navigator Receives Investment From Intel Capital for Development of OpenAccess Solutions

CUPERTINO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Apr 02, 2007 -- Silicon Navigator™ Corporation announced today that it has received an investment from Intel Capital to further mutual goals of expanding the scope and usage of OpenAccess-based products. Silicon Navigator is a leading provider of broad-based Electronic Design Automation (EDA) solutions based natively on the Open Source, OpenAccess database. The investment will be used to further enhance Silicon Navigator's products, including its Rocket Design Environment™ programmable framework. Additionally, the companies will work together to extend OpenAccess solutions to meet next generation design and EDA needs.

"Silicon Navigator's relationship with Intel is representative of a new class of standards-based alliances between EDA companies and Integrated Device Manufacturers (IDMs)," said Silicon Navigator CEO J. George Janac. "EDA suppliers can now provide tools and services based on the OpenAccess database versus proprietary databases. The two companies have been involved in OpenAccess for many years, and we share a common goal of enabling and developing open EDA components based on plug-in architectures."

"This investment, coupled with our ongoing collaboration with Silicon Navigator, will help drive OpenAccess usage and evolution beyond current applications," said Rahul Goyal, Director, EDA Business, Intel Corporation. "Intel believes in open industry standards and was a founding member of the OpenAccess Coalition (OAC). Likewise, Silicon Navigator serves on the OpenAccess change team."

Silicon Navigator's unique business model is based on licensing Application Programming Interface (API) based infrastructure and engines for chip design. The company provides EDA development tools and support to build products providing APIs to all components. The company bases its software on standards such at Qt, OpenGL, C++, TCL, Python and OpenAccess. Standards preserve customer investment and enable cross-pollination of technologies and resources from other industries. The Rocket Design Environment (RDE™) framework's architecture represents the next generation of EDA software where core algorithms are simply inserted into a common infrastructure. Interoperability lowers barriers to adoption, minimizing investment for new tools.
