Description: Synthesis techniques use sophisticated optimization algorithms to generate candidate networks based on given performance goals. These techniques can be particularly useful for power amplifier designs, where performance targets are often stringent. This means the selection of an output match is a critical step in any PA design flow. This presentation will demonstrate how a variety of output matching network topologies can be quickly synthesized using only a measured load-pull data set. This enables the designer to assess the tradeoffs of each topology, refine the performance goals if necessary, and move on to the stage of building prototypes. As such, network synthesis can be used to significantly streamline the design flow, and reduce time-to-market for PA designs.
