Description: Automobile radar for next-generation advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) will utilize the 77 GHz band (76-81 GHz) and advanced antenna array technology for the signal bandwidths and antenna beams that will yield the range and radial velocity resolution needed for the required safety features that are increasingly becoming standard on new vehicles. This presentation examines the application requirements for different ADAS functions and how they impact system waveforms and architecture. A review of radar basics will be followed by a more detailed look at a linear frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar example, antenna array designs, and capabilities in phased-array modeling for consideration in systems employing beam forming.
