San Diego Region Sees 50 Percent Increase in Federal Spending, According to Deltek

Report predicts $21.7 billion business pipeline by 2013

RESTON, Va. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 30, 2011 — Maintaining a strong naval presence over the past four fiscal years, the San Diego region has reported a 50 percent increase in federal spending from FY 2007 to FY 2010—resulting in a remarkable total federal spend of $55 billion for that time period. Deltek’s latest report, Federal Regional Report: San Diego, California examines and analyzes the impacts of these spending trends on San Diego’s potential IT- related business opportunities, while supplying vendors with today’s top-five prime, active 8(a) and Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOB) contractors of that region. The report also notes the significance of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command’s (SPAWAR) locale in San Diego, and recognizes it as a major contributor of the region’s DOD IT contracting success. Delivering a top-dollar value of $21.7 billion business pipeline by 2013, Deltek’s in-depth research and analysis provides vendors with comprehensive forecasting of federal trends, drivers and business opportunities for the San Diego, Calif. market.

“San Diego continues to be an area of increasing interest for government contractors, and its IT industry alone has met growth expectations with an impressive $11.5 billion in total federal spending over the four year span,” said Jennifer Sakole, Principle Analyst for Deltek. “With 94 percent of this region’s spending attributed to defense spending, this shows that the area is not only a hotbed for federal contracting activity, but that SPAWAR’S naval initiatives are imperative to take into account when trying to successfully strategize and bid for San Diego’s upcoming opportunities. By zeroing in on the area’s federal spending scope, we hope to better assist new or small businesses to succeed within San Diego’s critical DOD market.”

Though the report outlines high-volume spending from DOD contracts, it also segments the top civilian agency trends for this region. Furthermore, the report forecasts Deltek-tracked business opportunities through 2013—providing businesses with advantageous market insight to help them break into San Diego’s active contracting landscape.
