WILSONVILLE, Ore. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 4, 2011 — Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced it has worked with TSMC to validate an advanced functional verification approach based on the Mentor Graphics® Questa® Ultra verification platform. The Questa Ultra verification platform supports a proven process to accelerate design verification from TLM to RTL to chip implementation. As a result, it helps users adopt productive verification technologies for complex designs. The Questa Ultra verification platform integrates simulation with technology to address intelligent testbench automation, low power verification and verification management. The Questa Ultra verification platform is also tightly integrated with specialized technology for clock domain crossing (CDC) verification and formal verification to cover hard to reach design problems.
“Design verification complexity is a major barrier to reach coverage closure. Reducing overall design cycle time is a common goal for the semiconductor industry,” said Suk Lee, director of Design Infrastructure Marketing at TSMC. “Our collaboration with Mentor Graphics on Questa Ultra verification platform is an important step to address the time-to-coverage challenges that customers are facing today especially in pattern generation.”
The Mentor Graphics functional verification environment delivers a strong verification foundation and vision, spanning simulation, emulation, and formal verification to address ever-growing verification challenges. Its leading support for open, industry standards, customizability, and scalability ensures an optimized verification flow that achieves the highest productivity, schedule predictability, and rapid verification closure.
"Collaboration between Mentor and TSMC is fundamental to drive verification productivity and efficiency. We have taken big steps to validate adoption of innovative verification technology within standard verification methodologies and languages with the TSMC partnership,” said John Lenyo, general manager of Design Verification Technology division at Mentor Graphics. “This partnership with TSMC is further evidence of our commitment to transform functional verification of complex SoC designs.”
Readiness of the Questa Ultra verification platform is confirmed for designs destined for production by TSMC through mutual customer validation. “AppliedMicro always evaluates tools that make tough design verification challenges easier. The Mentor Graphics collaboration with TSMC results in verification technology that is user friendly and draws on a comprehensive tool set in a standard methodology framework,” said Shing Sheung Tse, senior engineering manager at AppliedMicro. “The technology offers the ability to employ advanced techniques and to manage overall coverage metrics for low-power design verification. The Intelligent Testbench Automation capability shortens our time-to-coverage by over 100x. This feature-rich solution helps design teams consolidate tasks, reduce time-to-market and introduce advanced embedded processing for high-speed transport products.”
The Mentor Graphics technology has been seasoned with use in design projects and is silicon proven based on some of the world’s most complex designs. By applying the technology in a comprehensive and proven methodology, it makes it easier for designers choosing TSMC silicon technology to take advantage of years of verification experiences without the need for a large verification department.
