Coventry, UK. 20 January, 2011. – ACT, the exclusive Northern European value-added reseller for the ICEM Surf and CATIA ICEM Shape Design 3D modelling software suites and Dassault Systèmes, the leading developer of 3D PLM (product lifecycle management) software solutions, recently held the first ICEM Surf UK users meeting to be held in recent years.
Attended by users from around the UK, the meeting was held at The Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire on 19th January. Delegates heard from executives from ACT and from Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA ICEM Shape software portfolio development and marketing teams who described the development roadmap for ICEM Surf for the next three releases and beyond. They also learnt about developments in the sales and support organisation that saw ACT recently appointed the exclusive value-added reseller in North Europe and all English-speaking African countries for the ICEM Surf and CATIA ICEM Shape Design 3D modelling software suites.
New developments shown
Demonstrations during the meeting included a first look at ICEM Surf 4.10, which is scheduled for release in the summer this year, as well as a number of new technologies. These included CATIA LIVE Rendering – a real-time ray tracing solution (based on I-ray) that is fully integrated into CATIA V6. The benefits of reading ICEM Surf data into CATIA LIVE Rendering for design and engineering reviews were shown to delegates.
“It was good to hear about the on-going support for ICEM Surf as it is our key platform for delivering Class A surfaces to our automotive and aviation customers”, said Gary Doy, director, Design Q.
The meeting also provided delegates with the opportunity to win an iPad. The eventual winner was Simon Tildesley of Tata Motors.
“The reinstatement of the ICEM Surf UK users meeting after many years without one is an illustration of the renewed commitment by Dassault Systèmes to the further development and on-going support of both ICEM Surf and of CATIA ICEM Shape Design and underlines the software’s significance within the overall CATIA software solutions family,” said Phil Botley, chief operating officer of ACT. “CATIA LIVE Rendering is game-changing technology and we look forward to following up on the significant interest shown in it at the meeting and to holding further such meetings in other territories in the future,” he added.
About ICEM Surf
Part of the Dassault Systèmes CATIA family of 3D product design, engineering, manufacturing and lifecycle management software products, ICEM Surf has been the leading Class-A surface modelling, surface quality analysis and surfaces visualisation software suite for the past 20 years. ICEM Surf has become a de-facto industry-standard automotive Class-A surfacing software tool. In the final stages of a vehicle or other product design, ICEM Surf is used to clarify and to fully resolve the customer-visible surfaces of a product before tool and die fabrication starts. Designers can also use ICEM Surf to create extremely accurate 3D design visualisations through static and dynamic renderings as well as 3D virtual reality views using stereo mode.
