Sri Lanka-Based Engineering Enterprise to Benefit From Integrated Electrical and Physical Design Capabilities That Result in 30 Percent Productivity Improvements
EXTON, Pa. – Jan. 18, 2011 – Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for the infrastructure that sustains our world, today announced that LTL Holdings, a fast-growing engineering enterprise focused on power generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kenya, and other developing countries, has deployed Bentley Substation V8i. LTL Holdings chose Bentley Substation V8i – the first intraoperable software for intelligent electrical and physical substation design – to increase efficiencies and reduce costs and errors in its substation design and fabrication processes. Bentley Substation is replacing a standard CAD product at LTL Holdings that was previously used for 2D design and the production of drawings without intelligence.
Hewa D. Chaminda, electrical design manager at LTL Projects Ltd., an associate of LTL Holdings, said, “The market for turnkey design-build projects is very competitive, and we are always looking for ways to improve productivity. Bentley Substation will do that and much more. With the many different designers on our projects now working from a single intelligent model of the new substation infrastructure, we can be sure that any changes made will be carried through to all of the design documentation from every discipline.”
Chaminda continued, “This will reduce our costs by speeding the design process, lead to fewer design errors, and ensure that we can fabricate to the original design fully confident that change orders will be kept to a minimum. For those on the business side of our organization, this translates to less project risk, and with today’s economic challenges, that’s really important.”
Bentley Substation empowers project teams to design substations 30 percent faster than with stand-alone, non-integrated applications. The software’s single interface for substation design and the common intelligent information model enable users to design more precisely, generate accurate bills of material, create drawings quickly and efficiently, and rigorously enforce company standards. At the same time, Bentley Substation’s integration with ProjectWise collaboration services provides superior engineering content management and team collaboration that support the entire substation design workflow.
LTL Holdings is using Bentley Substation in concert with Bentley’s STAAD.Pro for structural analysis, STAAD.foundation for foundation design, ProSteel for structural detailing and fabrication, and Bentley Rebar for rebar specification and detailing. The structural analysis and design products work seamlessly with Bentley Substation, leveraging the intelligent model of the substation created in the initial design process.
Added Chaminda, “We are gratified to be the first users of Bentley Substation in South Asia. The software’s unique capabilities and unmatched flexibility will give us a significant competitive advantage in the marketplace that should open up new project opportunities.”
Mike Lambert, Bentley Substation product manager, said, “We are very pleased to have made our first Bentley Substation sale in South Asia to such an ambitious, successful, and highly qualified engineering organization as LTL Holdings. With this new deployment, we now proudly acknowledge that Bentley Substation is currently being used in North America, Europe, South Asia, China, and Australia.”
