LIVERMORE, Calif. — July 8, 2010 — Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) will provide an educational presentation and demonstrations, including a ‘ride-and-drive,’ at the ESRI User Conference (UC) July 12-15 in the San Diego Convention Center. The events are created to demonstrate technologies to increase the speed, safety and cost-savings of GIS data collection.
“Revolutionize Asset Management with 3D LiDAR and Geospherical Imaging” is a joint presentation by Topcon’s Dave Henderson, 2010 GITA Speaker of the Year, and The GeoNav Group that will introduce precision mobile LiDAR and geospherical video. GeoNav will provide a demonstration on how telecommunications and electric distribution systems facilities data, covering up to 80 miles, can be collected and used in a single day. Typical application areas are utilities, GIS asset management and transportation. The lunch presentation is scheduled for July 14 starting at 12 p.m. in Room 11B.
The Topcon “3D Mobile Mapping Ride & Drive” will start at 9 a.m. each day running on the half-hour throughout the day, and will feature the IP-S2. McInerney said, “The demonstration will allow participants to see first-hand how to generate 3D point cloud data combined with colorful geo-referenced images that can be used to create GIS at any time after the initial data collection efforts.” Tickets will be available at the Topcon booth (Booth 2115).
McInerney said participants will see the latest in hand-held and high-accuracy GIS data collection at the Topcon booth. “We will demonstrate how the internal modem of the Topcon GRS-1 device can be used for real-time data exchange between the field and the office, and will provide additional solutions with Topcon partners including TerraGo Technologies.” TerraGo has certified the GRS-1 for use with its TerraGo Mobile™ software. The software is designed to create easy-to-use, portable and interactive GeoPDF® files.
Topcon, Aerotec, LLC, and Laser Technology, Inc. will demonstrate a joint vegetation management solution.
Aerotec has created an electric power transmission right-of-way vegetation management application to run on Topcon's GRS-1 with data input from Laser Technology’s laser rangefinder. McInerney said, “This joint solution is designed to allow utility foresters to easily use GPS to identify and locate conductor-vegetation clearance problems much faster and more accurately than current alternative methods.”
