1Spatial to showcase Technical Guidance INSPIRE Conference

1Spatial is pleased to announce their participation in the European Commission’s INSPIRE Conference in Kraków, Poland from 22nd - 25th June 2010.

June 16, 2010 -- The INSPIRE Conference, formerly the EC-GIS Conference, organised by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides a forum for sharing information and experiences related to the implementation of INSPIRE and the development of Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) in general. This year’s theme is “INSPIRE as a Framework for Cooperation” and the activities include pre-conference workshops ahead of the main programme.

As part of the pre-conference workshops on Tuesday 22nd June, a team from 1Spatial will be running an interactive workshop session on the key architectural components of schema Transformation Network Services (TNS) for INSPIRE. This will include reporting on the recommendations that have been made in respect of each of these components as well as a demonstration of a prototype schema transformation service. This transformation service is part of the JRC contract on the Development of Technical Guidance for INSPIRE Schema Transformation Network Services. The Technical Guidance contract was awarded in October 2009 to a consortium consisting of 1Spatial, RSW Geomatics and Rob Walker Consultancy.

Within the main conference programme 1Spatial’s Dr Matthew Beare will be delivering a poster presentation throughout the week around the business benefits that can be derived from engaging with INSPIRE, referencing the JRC Technical Guidance work as well as other projects such as the European Spatial Data Infrastructure with a Best Practice Network (ESDIN). Dr Beare will also have contributed to the paper being presented on Friday 25th entitled Schema Transformation for INSPIRE. This paper will reference work to date on the Technical Guidance work for the JRC, including the State of the Art review and its conclusions, and the issues that will be covered in the final Technical Guidance and media material.

Dr Michael Sanderson, Executive Chairman of 1Spatial said:

“We have worked hard to become a lead player in the European eContent and INSPIRE programmes over the last three years. Our approach is based on open standards, reusing what has been produced before during EC funded projects (for example Humboldt) in conjunction with ISO and W3C standards. The prototype we have produced for schema transformation is a triumph for breaking down the proprietary approach to spatial information systems and we hope it will generate plenty of feedback. With data supplied by six different countries this schema TNS project definitely supports the Conference theme. ”
