EPA Associate Administrator Lisa Heinzerling to Keynote Closing General Session at the American Society of Landscape Architects Annual Meeting and EXPO

Washington, D.C., — September 2, 2009 — Lisa Heinzerling, associate administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Policy, Economics and Innovation, will serve as the closing keynote speaker at the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) 2009 Annual Meeting and EXPO, September 18-21, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Much of ASLA’s work is devoted to positioning the landscape architecture profession at the forefront of environmental public policy development, and the Office of Policy, Economics and Innovation acts as the primary policy arm for the EPA. Prior to her current position, Heinzerling was a member of President Obama’s Transition Team for the EPA and has served as the senior climate policy counsel since his inauguration.

In addition to her work at the EPA, she has served as a law professor at Georgetown University since 1993 and has been a visiting professor at the Harvard and Yale law schools. Her scholarship in environmental law has been published in the Yale Law Journal, Harvard Law Review, University of Chicago Law Review, and Georgetown Law Journal, among other publications. She is the author, with Frank Ackerman, of Priceless: On Knowing the Price of Everything and the Value of Nothing (The New Press 2004). She was the lead author of the winning briefs for petitioners in Massachusetts v. EPA, in which the Supreme Court in 2007 held that the Clean Air Act gives EPA the authority to regulate greenhouse gases.

The closing general session takes place on September 21 at 3:00 PM and is sponsored by Landscape Forms. To learn more about the 2009 Meeting and EXPO, visit www.asla.org/2009meeting.
