Leuven, Belgium, July 13, 2009 – Mephisto Design Automation (MDA), a leading EDA tool innovator in the space of analog, mixed-signal and custom-digital design, announced that it has joined the Interoperable PDK Libraries (IPL) Alliance.
The IPL Alliance is an industry-wide collaborative effort to create and promote interoperable process design kit (PDK) standards. A PDK is a comprehensive set of foundry-specific data files used in analog and mixed signal design flows. The standardization of PDKs removes setup and configuration issues and delays for custom IC designers working with multiple-vendor tool flows. Today, foundries, EDA vendors and in some cases design companies are creating specific PDKs in different formats depending on the EDA tools used. By standardizing the PDK format significant savings in cost and schedules are achieved, providing designers timely access to new process technologies.
“With more customers adopting our M-DESIGN™ analog and mixed-signal platform for different process technologies we expect considerable benefits for both our customers and MDA as well as for partner tool providers to work with standardized PDKs.”, said Kenneth Francken, CEO of Mephisto Design Automation. “MDA has always been following the PDK discussion and now we see a momentum being built between different players in the ecosystem.”
MDA’s flagship product M-DESIGN is an ideal platform for IP creation, verification and reuse, including migration to different specifications and/or process technologies (foundry / node). The platform already easily integrates with existing frameworks and simulators. Interoperable PDKs will further ensure seamless operation of M-DESIGN in multi-tool flows.
MDA will showcase M-DESIGN’s migration capabilities and its new M-CRAFT™ evaluation setup module at the forthcoming DAC (Design Automation Conference), July 27-30, 2009 in San Francisco. Demos can be scheduled in MDA’s booth (#521) by sending an email to dac09@mephisto-da.com. MDA will also be hosting a breakfast presentation in room 250/262 of the Moscone Convention Center on Wednesday, July 29, 08:00-09:00 am. About IPL
The IPL (Interoperable PDK Libraries) is an industry alliance established on April 2007 to collaborate on the creation and promotion of interoperable process design kit (PDK) standards. Since its inception, the IPL Alliance has released a proof-of-concept interoperable PCell library, demonstrated interoperability among tools from multiple vendors, and expanded its charter to address broader interoperability issues with foundry process design kits (PDKs) and design flows.
