June 30, 2009 -- 3-GIS, an Alabama based software development and services company, has announced that Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative (TREC) will install its web-based design and editing engineering tool, Network Express, this summer.
TREC, an electric distribution cooperative, serves approximately 25,000 members spanning parts of Clay, Randolph, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Lee, Russell, and Barbour Counties of East Central Alabama. TREC has seen growth in recent months and recognized the need to improve business processes and upgrade existing technology to meet the needs to its growing member base. TREC selected Network Express GIS as the best software solution to meet these needs providing TREC with a thin-client, Enterprise GIS.
3-GIS will leverage the MultiSpeak data model and begin the project in July 2009 by migrating TREC’s current AutoCAD data into a MultiSpeak compliant geodatabase. With the geodatabase in place, 3-GIS will install its back-end component Express Conductor atop the ESRI ArcGIS Server. Express Conductor will then link the data to Network Express allowing GIS technicians to make edits from a web browser, providing access to GIS data from anywhere on TREC’s network.
The 3-GIS mobile application, Field Express Chameleon has also been taken into consideration to better leverage GIS asset data for use in automated staking, inspection and maintenance procedures. Field Express components plug into the existing Network Express GIS for future scalability and mobile operations.
“We selected Network Express because the functionality most closely matched the requirements we had for our new GIS,” says Ken Murphy, TREC Manager of Engineering and Operations. “When 3-GIS confirmed Network Express would seamlessly integrate with our current Customer Information System and Engineering Analysis software, our decision was made.”
