Innovative Planning Organization Implements Envista to Support “Big Picture” Decisions
May 12, 2009 -- Envista Corporation, a provider of web-based software for infrastructure project coordination, today announced Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission (NKAPC) is deploying Envista's map-driven application. NKAPC and its partners will use the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) to manage hundreds of roadway and utility construction and maintenance projects to be performed in public rights of way. NKAPC will serve as the central coordinator for use of the new technology by Kenton and Campbell Fiscal Courts, Northern Kentucky Water District, and Sanitation District No. 1.
Envista will enable coordination amongst participating jurisdictions, allowing them to view project schedules, resolve conflicts, and optimize the timing of their projects. Envista will display hundreds of paving, water, and sanitation projects in the two counties, which could grow to include more than 30 cities. This new coordinated approach is expected to optimize the construction planning process, reduce street cuts, and lessen the impact on neighborhoods and commuters during the paving and construction season.
Dennis Gordon, FAICP, executive director of NKAPC, states, "Accommodating so many projects in public rights of way requires a partnership and a tool to facilitate its goals. We are already partners with the two fiscal courts and two utilities in LinkGIS, our Geographic Information System (GIS) that will provide coordinate data to geolocate projects within Envista. The solution will facilitate tracking projects, updating work schedules, analyzing conflicts, and resolving issues.
"The ability to view construction projects will give numerous jurisdictions and utility providers uninterrupted access to 'big picture' information and keep everyone on the same page. All partnering entities will be able to move revitalization efforts forward with the confidence that they are not wasting time, and tax-payer and rate-payer dollars. Ultimately, Envista’s technology has the potential to foster new standards in collaborative infrastructure renewal," concludes Gordon.
NKAPC provides tactical and strategic planning solutions to sustain economic vitality in the Northern Kentucky region. The organization takes an active role in building coalitions to optimize "smart growth". NKAPC also assists in the implementation of a 20-year growth and development plan for Kenton County, one of eight counties in the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The NKAPC staff includes certified urban/regional planners, professional engineers/land surveyors, certified building officials, zoning administrators, GIS/IT (geographic information systems/information technology) professionals and others.
