Among the most significant enhancements in this release, The MathWorks introduced the new Simscape language for creating physical modeling components and acausal simulation domains in the Simulink environment. In addition, Parallel Computing Toolbox now enables users to distribute parallel MATLAB applications as standalone executables or software components that can take advantage of computing clusters.
Additional enhancements in R2008b include:
- Symbolic Math Toolbox - New version provides a new notebook interface for symbolic computation, plus direct access to MuPAD symbolic engine and language from MATLAB;
- Simulink Fixed Point - New version supports word lengths up to 128 bits for accurate design and simulation, with support for C and HDL code generation;
- SimElectronics - A new product for modeling and simulating electronic and electromechanical systems in the Simulink environment;
- Econometrics Toolbox - A new product for economic forecasting and risk management;
- Statistics Toolbox - New version supports nonlinear mixed-effects models (NLME) used in computational biology and other applications.
The new release is available immediately and is being shipped to customers with current subscriptions to the MathWorks Software Maintenance Service. Additional information on R2008b product updates can be found at www.mathworks.com/R2008b.
