“We’re excited about the innovation we‘re making at MapQuest to provide our users with a local experience that extends our accurate maps and directions capabilities,” said Christian Dwyer, Senior Vice President and GM, MapQuest.
At the heart of the MapQuest Local experience are content widgets that provide localized information including:
- Weather forecasts
- Local news from hundreds of sources
- Locally-relevant videos available across the Web from Truveo
- Event and restaurant information from CityGuide
- Area-specific photos
- Movie times from Moviefone
- Real-time traffic and gas prices provided by MapQuest
Ten content widgets will be available at launch with the selection of widgets and content providers expected to expand over the coming months. A convenient dashboard allows users to personalize their MapQuest Local experience by specifying their location and selecting the content widgets that are displayed each time they visit the site.
MapQuest Local is built on an open platform that enables the integration of third-party feeds from local businesses, news providers, event guides, social networking sites, and other content providers. Content providers interested in providing locally relevant content to MapQuest’s monthly audience of more than 47 million consumers*, can go to http://developer.mapquest.com/localquest for more information on submitting a feed.
