IDIS powers scalable video security product lines with Texas Instruments digital media processor and software

Security DVRs and IP-based applications benefit from flexibility and performance offered by DaVinci(TM) technology

DAEJON, Korea, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelligent Digital Integrated Security Co., Ltd. (IDIS), a leading provider of digital video surveillance solutions, announces it is utilizing Texas Instruments Incorporated's (TI's) (NYSE: TXN) TMS320DM6446 digital media processor based on DaVinci(TM) technology for two video surveillance-focused product lines. IDIS is delivering a low-cost, four channel Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and an Internet Protocol (IP) video transmitter and receiver for IP-based surveillance systems. These products help customers protect their video surveillance system investments by allowing current analog cameras to work with future, IP-based systems. Taking advantage of TI's DM6446 processor and MPEG-4 codec, IDIS is achieving elevated levels of performance, reliability and software integration for its current DVR and IP video transmitters and receivers. Both product lines will be extended later this year to include multiple channel DVRs and IP cameras, which is made possible by the scalability offered by the DaVinci(TM) technology portfolio of products complete with software, development tools and support.

The TMS320DM644x architecture is a highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) based on TI's performance-leading TMS320C64x+(TM) DSP core, an ARM926 processor, video accelerators, networking peripherals and external memory/storage interfaces all specifically tuned for video encode and decode applications. The DM6446 adds video encoding and decoding capabilities through a dedicated video processing sub-system capable of capturing and displaying various digital video formats.

"DSP-based solutions provide greater flexibility and richer features over ASIC solutions. TI's digital media processors based on DaVinci(TM) technology provide the needed performance levels with greater reliability," said Albert Ryu, CTO, IDIS. "Price also plays a key role in differentiating DVRs so as to be competitive in the video surveillance market. TI's integrated SoC solutions provide a lower bill of materials, which is necessary to meet the tough cost requirements."

DVRs are essential to the video security market as they provide a way to capture and store inputs from system cameras for temporary and permanent storage of events. The DM6446 allows for MPEG-4 video compression at a rate of 120 images per second at CIF resolution, which enables customers to save their video for longer periods of time with the same hard disk drive storage. Additionally, as security systems transition from analog to IP-based systems, customers will need tools to allow the two systems to work together. IP transmitters allow inputs to be received from analog cameras and send compressed data via the Internet to their counterparts, IP receivers, which display the compressed video on analog monitors.

"DVRs are vital components of any video security system and TI is committed to helping valuable video security customers, like IDIS, develop high-quality innovative products for the surveillance industry," says Danny Petkevich, video security & imaging business manager, TI. "As customers migrate towards IP-based systems to address challenges with storage and image quality, security solutions will need the ability to capture, send, store and share data between ageing analog systems and cutting edge IP solutions."
