New Low-power 6U VMEbus SBC From MEN Micro Supports Intel Multicore Architectures for Exceptional Computing Performance

AMBLER, Pa., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- MEN Micro Inc., a world-renowned provider of embedded computing and I/O solutions for demanding industrial, mobile and harsh environment applications, now offers a 6U VMEbus single board computer (SBC) that supports several Intel processors, from the 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo T7400 down to the single core Celeron M.

The new, rugged A19 employs Intel's low-power 945GME Express Chipset, with an integrated 256-bit graphics engine providing up to 250 MHz for exceptional graphics performance, and enables the connection of two monitors with either the same or different displays. The A19's processor and chipset combination makes the SBC ideal for use in a wide range of industrial, medical engineering, robotics, infotainment and transportation industries with high computing requirements found in monitoring, control, automation and security functions.

For rugged industrial applications, the A19 comes standard with a tailored passive heat sink. Depending on processor type, heat sink size and system requirements, the A19 can also be used in an extended temperature range. The soldered DDR2-RAM system memory (up to 4 GB) guarantees optimum shock and vibration resistance. For operation in humid and dusty environments, the A19 is also prepared for conformal coating.

A Tundra TSI148 bridge controller on the A19 delivers 2eSST functionality that doubles the theoretical VME transaction bandwidth up to 320 MB/s, while maintaining compatibility with legacy standards, including VME64 and VME32.

Standard front panel I/O includes graphics via a VGA connector as well as two Gigabit Ethernet and two USB 2.0 interfaces. A PMC or XMC slot coupled with a specially developed mezzanine card, which can also be used on the CompactPCI-based SBC D9, provide expanded I/O functions on the A19. With a mezzanine card, up to four USB and two Gigabit Ethernet ports are led to the rear of the A19.

The Ethernet channels enable the implementation of a packet-based switching architecture on top of CompactPCI to meet PICMG 2.16 specifications. Additional I/O options via a mezzanine card include a digital video port via DVI and HD audio. Six PCI Express lanes ensure fast data transfer. The A19 offers a CompactFlash slot and two SATA ports used on-board or on the backplane.

The SBC operates in Windows and Linux environments as well as with real-time operating systems that support a multicore architecture. The Award BIOS has been specially developed for embedded system applications. The A19 also features built-in monitoring functions for the processor, board temperature and operating system.

The new board is equipped with Intel Embedded components for long-term availability until at least 2013.

Pricing for the A19 starts at $3,942. Delivery is two weeks ARO.
