Ricoh Integrates Carbon Design Systems into ESL Design Flow

Acton, Mass.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 5, 2008— Carbon Design Systems(TM), the leading supplier of tools for the automatic creation, validation and deployment of virtual hardware models, today announced that Ricoh Company Ltd. of Japan has designed an imaging processor using its model generation solution.

Ricoh purchased Carbon Model Studio, formerly known as VSP, in September 2007 and integrated it into its electronic system level (ESL) design methodology. The success of the first project -- an image processing module written in SystemC and synthesized into register transfer level (RTL) code -- led to the use of Carbon's automatic model generator on its next-generation image processing module.

"Carbon offers tremendous advantages over the technology that Ricoh has used so far," notes Kazunobu Sugaya, manager of Design Engineering Section within the Imaging System LSI Development Center of the Electronic Devices Company at Ricoh Company Ltd. "Carbon's scalability for large designs and simulation performance is unmatched. Our design team is able to satisfy the rigorous project schedules with Carbon."

Adds Scott Seaton, Carbon's vice president of sales: "Ricoh has exacting requirements that are only met with leading-edge technology. Our advantage is the strong working relationship we have with ARM, along with the tight integration between ARM SoC Design and Carbon Model Studio."

About Carbon Design Systems

Carbon is the leading supplier of system-level tools to automatically create, validate and deploy software models generated from Verilog and/or VHDL descriptions. Carbon's models are used in conjunction with SystemC simulation platforms to enable architecture profiling and software validation in parallel with hardware development. Problems can be found and resolved early in the design cycle, rather than waiting for prototypes to be built or silicon to be delivered. Its solutions are based on open industry standards, including SystemC, SCML, Verilog, VHDL, OSCI TLM, MDI, CASI, CADI and CAPI. Carbon's customers are systems, semiconductor, and IP companies that focus on communications, networking, and consumer electronics. Email: info@carbondesignsystems.com.
