Nascentric Announces Industry's First Thread-Based Subscription Licensing

HYDERABAD, India—(BUSINESS WIRE)—January 5, 2008— Nascentric, Inc., an Electronic Design Automation (EDA) company focused on providing the fastest, highest capacity, and most accurate Fast-SPICE simulation and analysis tools, announced the industry's first thread-based licensing model. This licensing model provides a means for customers to purchase parallel simulation threads, depending on performance requirements and budget constraints, and reallocate their usage based on project needs.

The new pricing structure is intended to automatically and seamlessly enable users to switch from single- to multi-threaded capability, and back again, depending upon the peak simulation demand at any given point in the design cycle. It is also intended to simplify the pricing of EDA tools and make them more affordable and equitable to small- to mid-sized companies that, unlike large companies, are unable to routinely negotiate and obtain substantial price discounts.

In June 2007, Nascentric was the first to announce a multi-threaded Fast-SPICE solution that intelligently divides and runs circuit simulations in parallel on multi-core/multi-processor Linux systems. The performance speedup can be nearly linear with respect to the number of threads available for the simulator. Now, Nascentric's new pricing model extends this capability to enable users to acquire licenses based upon the number of simulation threads the user intends to run.

"We're declaring an end to EDA pricing shenanigans," said Rahm Shastry, President and CEO of Nascentric. "The typical sales strategy for an EDA company is to set unrealistically high list prices, endlessly haggle over them, and deceptively raise the list price and maintenance fees over time. As an alternative, we are offering a consistent, reasonably-priced subscription model that is fair and equitable to both large and small customers."

"Apple revolutionized the music industry with a simple, customer-centric price model, where people only pay for what they want," said Dino Caporossi, VP of Marketing at Nascentric. "We challenge other EDA companies to do likewise by making their pricing more transparent and customizing it to suit customers' needs, rather than forcing them into months of painful negotiation and quietly raising their prices down the road."

Pricing

North American pricing for Nascentric's next generation Fast-SPICE tool is $1,200 per thread per month (thread-month) or $12,000 per thread per year (thread-year).

About Nascentric

Nascentric is a privately held company that develops and markets a patented, next-generation Fast-SPICE simulator for analysis and functional verification of complex nanometer designs. Nascentric products allow designers to quickly simulate, analyze and verify larger and more complex circuits, improve design quality, and facilitate higher yields. The Nascentric management team brings decades of combined electrical engineering and electronic design automation experience to bear on the challenge of delivering full-chip simulation and analysis focused on eliminating silicon re-spins due to nanometer effects.
