Avatech Becomes Leica Geosystems High Definition Scanner Gold Dealer

Organizations turn to leading CAD integrator to offer new services and improve drawing accuracy

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – November 19, 2007 – Avatech Solutions, Inc. (OTCBB: AVSO.OB), the nationwide technology experts for design, engineering, and facilities management, has become a high definition scanner Gold Dealer with Leica Geosystems. Avatech is among the largest US distributors for Leica Geosystems high definition scanners (HDS), serving companies engaged in surveying, plant design, architecture, and facilities management.

“Avatech’s partnership with Leica Geosystems has helped our clients to implement the leading edge of scanning technology and open up new lines of business,” said Bruce White, Senior Vice President of Sales at Avatech. “Our technical experts understand the overall business, and when we sell a scanner, we are selling a new way for our customers to provide greater accuracy to their clients. Forward-thinking companies are leading a new wave of engineering accuracy and efficiency by adopting these new HDS systems.”

Nederveld and Associates, a full-service civil and survey engineering firm, has purchased two high definition Leica scanners from Avatech. The firm purchased the HDS 3000 and the HDS 6000, and uses Leica Cloudworx software in conjunction with AutoCAD Land Desktop to produce high-accuracy project drawings and maps. Nederveld has two surveyors dedicated to high definition scanning projects and has successfully produced drawings for many diverse jobs including stadiums, manufacturing facilities, plants, parks, roads, bridges, and many architectural projects.

“The high definition measurements and digital photo images that these scanners produce provide far greater accuracy and details. The point cloud data can produce measurements and imagery that no ordinary measuring device could produce,” said a Nederveld spokesperson. “We can create 2D or 3D drawings for mapping or design work, and by starting with superior field measurements, clients receive a superior design with the risk of error dramatically reduced.”

“Avatech helped us move to the latest technology from Leica Geosystems and Autodesk in order to gain the advantages of high definition scanning,” said Nederveld. “Avatech also helped us generate enough business from one of our top clients by showing them a demo of what the scanner and the software could do that we decided to purchase a second scanner, the Leica HDS 6000.”

“The Leica HDS6000 is a high speed, phase-based scanner that provides a higher scan density form previous models. Furthermore, it is much lighter and easier to carry than other models. With benefits like those, we can recommend the HDS6000 for many field work applications as well as hard-to-access places,” said Michael Harvey, Product Marketing Manager. “We partnered with Avatech to ensure implementation of our technology would be successful and this deal with Nederveld reflects the level of service and quality we have come to expect from Avatech.”
