Aware to Demonstrate IP-Bonded VDSL2 Solution at NXTcomm 2007

Aware also launches its integrated ATM-Bonded ADSL2+ solution

BEDFORD, Mass., June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE), a leading supplier of broadband technology, today announced that it will be releasing two new DSL bonding products at NXTcomm 2007, June 18 - 21 in Chicago. At the show, Aware will conduct the industry's first public demonstration of bonded VDSL2 with its new StratiPHY(TM) IP-Bonded VDSL2 reference design for copper line bonding. Aware will also feature its new single-chip StratiPHY ATM-Bonded ADSL2+ intellectual property solution. Aware's StratiPHY bonded silicon-level intellectual property technologies are the perfect solutions for semiconductor manufacturers that want to support ITU G.bond (G.998.1 or G.998.2) in their customer premises equipment.

Aware's StratiPHY ADSL2+ ATM loop bonding technology was the first solution to provide the telecom industry with a revolutionary technique for combining multiple ADSL2+ lines together into a single, aggregated connection, even if they have different data rate capacities. Today Aware is pleased to announce that it has expanded on its DSL expertise and is introducing both an integrated single-chip ATM-Bonded solution for ADSL2+ and a higher-bandwidth Ethernet or IP-based reference design for bonded VDSL2. These solutions use the existing copper network to double the bandwidth to residential customers through the use of a second copper pair, and offer service providers an attractive means to greatly expand the service area without the cost of deploying fiber deeper into the network.

"Bonded DSL is one of the most important new broadband DSL technologies because service providers are now able to leverage their installedcopper infrastructure to roll out higher bandwidth IPTV and video offerings further into the network, reaching a much larger subscriber base for lower CAPEX than by using fiber-to-the-home networks," commented Peter LeBlanc, Aware's vice president of marketing. "Although VDSL2 is extremely high bandwidth, it has a limited reach. Aware's new StratiPHY IP-Bonded VDSL2 enables service providers to use the existing and unused second telephone line to bond two VDSL2 links into a single aggregate connection. For example, with the VDSL2 8d profile common in North American FTTN deployments, a service provider can use IP- Bonded VDSL2 over two lines to deliver an effective data rate of 40 Mbps to subscribers up to 5,000 feet from a remote DSLAM. A single VDSL2 line can deliver 40 Mbps only up to 3,000 feet. Therefore, through the use of IP-Bonded VDSL2, the IPTV service area more than doubles."

Aware's StratiPHY ATM- and IP-Bonded DSL intellectual property offerings contain all the requisite technology for semiconductor suppliers to rapidly integrate standard-compliant customer premises solutions. StratiPHY ATM- Bonded ADSL2+ integrates two StratiPHY2+(TM) field-proven cores along with bonding and management software into a single-chip intellectual property offering. Aware's IP-Bonded VDSL2 reference design is a complete instantiation of the ITU G.bond G.998.2 Ethernet bonded standard. It consists of two discrete StratiPHY3(TM) standard-compliant VDSL2 digital and analog ICs and programmable bonding logic and enables Ethernet bonding of two VDSL2 lines.
