The IC features a four-bit PWM control input that interfaces directly with a microcontroller or system processor to control fan speed. It can also be used as a stand-alone fan controller by connecting a thermistor circuit to the linear control pin. The HV7100 also features high-side drive, enabling the use of fans having a ground referenced tachometer signal. A simple LC filter converts the PWM output to a DC voltage for fans requiring DC drive.
"The HV7100 builds on Supertex's long history of developing innovative and cost effective high voltage power management products," states Ahmed Masood, Vice President of Marketing for Supertex. "This product reduces thermal management circuit complexity, improves efficiency, and minimizes parts count for fan trays and fan control modules."
The HV7100 is available in a 14 lead SO (HV7100NG-G) package. The part is "Green" and RoHS-compliant. Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing for the HV7100NG-G is US$1.68 in 1K quantities.
