ISC-V International Names Andrea Gallo as VP, Technology

Industry Veteran Brings Software and Hardware Experience to Role Guiding all RISC-V Technical Activities

MUNICH, Germany – June 24, 2024 –  RISC-V International, the global open standards organization, announced that Andrea Gallo has joined as the organization’s new vice president of Technology. Gallo heads up all of the organization’s technical activities, with a mission to facilitate the technical vision, cultivate stakeholder engagement, and drive the strategy in a deeply engaged collaboration with RISC-V members across workgroups and committees. He is also tasked with growing the adoption of the RISC-V Instruction Set Architecture (ISA). Andrea assumed his responsibilities today and is attending  RISC-V Summit Europe in Munich from June 24-28.

“Andrea brings to RISC-V a depth in building and leading collaborative ecosystems with a technical background to match,” said Calista Redmond, CEO, RISC-V International. “In his role, Andrea will be focused on streamlining processes and addressing any roadblocks toward ratification of RISC-V extensions;  growing engagement, contribution, and collaboration within the RISC-V technical community; and accelerating ecosystem adoption of RISC-V.”

Prior to RISC-V International, Andrea held multiple roles at Linaro. There, he started all Arm datacenter engineering activities from the ground up, starting with firmware to complex cloud workloads. Later as vice president of Segment Groups, he oversaw verticals from AI/ML to IoT and HPC to mobile devices including smartphones. He also served as executive vice president of Business Development, managing all membership contracts and starting new collaborative projects from automotive to Windows on Arm. Prior to Linaro, Andrea was a Fellow at ST-Ericsson for smartphones and application processors. While at STMicroelectronics, Andrea led the optimization of hardware-software architectures for new ICs and set up remote teams in India. Andrea holds a degree in telecommunications and speaks fluent Italian, French, and English.

“I am thrilled to join RISC-V International and be part of this incredible, vibrant community,” said Gallo. “RISC-V International is a world-class organization that is igniting change and opportunity around the globe. This member-driven ecosystem is unique in fostering innovation at an incredible pace, thanks to the energy of all contributors and the focus on software-driven hardware design. It is exciting to be part of the future on RISC-V.”

Andrea will be joining this RISC-V community this week at RISC-V Summit Europe in Munich Germany, located at the MOC – Event Center Messe. The event features a three-day conference with keynotes, presentations and panels, as well as Member Day, tutorials, an expo with nearly 40 exhibitors, a hackathon and an introduction to RISC-V.  More information can be found at https://riscv-europe.org/summit/2024/.
