PORTSMOUTH, R.I., Oct. 3, 2018 — (PRNewswire) — CDV Systems is offering a free online presentation outlining how 500+ room family and data templates were created, managed and batch loaded into 85% of the 14,000 Revit rooms of Cannon Design's new 3.5 million sf hospital called CHUM: Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal. This 60 mins two-part BIM presentation reviews the overall room template process and ends with a live BIM demonstration of the workflow.

Set in the heart of Montreal, the new Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) is changing the landscape of the Canadian metropolis. Occupying two full blocks, CHUM is the largest healthcare construction project currently being built in North America—and among the largest in the world.
In late 2011, CannonDesign and NEUF hosted a project delivery meeting, which included each firm's quality control and BIM leaders and the project's BIM consultant, Boston-based CDV Systems, to establish a road map for the design and documentation process. These protocols applied to both routine and BIM-specific tasks, from email correspondence and transmittals to building equipment content and reference details in the Revit model.
In addition to Revit, the team made extensive use of CodeBook, a database application tailored to capture and manage healthcare room and equipment requirements. CannonDesign estimates that Codebook cut the time needed to populate the model by half, as compared to manual input.
Jill Bergman, Vice President, Cannon Design explains:
"Codebook augments the team's BIM tools and leverages the database across the project, for equipment schedules and room data management into the design process. Managing all of the room types and repetitive data across this large project, we needed an application that would help us validate the model outputs, automating the review, and ensuring compliance with the hospital's emerging standard specifications for each type of space, without having to manually count or track anything. We also know our client will use this database for facility management after we deliver this project."
