The Savannah College of Art and Design presents SCAD AT MIAMI, Dec. 6-10

Christopher Paul Dean
SCAD alumnus Christopher Paul Dean (M.F.A., sculpture, 2016) was born in Milton Keynes, England, north of London. With a focus on art as a device to re-experience, he creates work that simultaneously utilizes and disrupts the viewers' expectations of the familiar. At the core of his practice is an interest in the fragility of experience, and how subtle manipulations of familiar components allow for an elevation in perception. Dean's intention is to provide the viewer with an opportunity to question past, current and future interactions with the familiar.

Since 2010, he has assisted artists at the Danish Folk Art School, Holbaek, Denmark; Cranbrook Academy of Art, Detroit, Michigan, and the U.S. Embassy and Consulates, Monterrey, Mexico. Dean has been featured in multiple publications including a cover feature for Artvoices Magazine, features in Studio Visit magazine, Looking at Painting and 101 Contemporary Artists. He has exhibited in numerous locations including London; New York, New York; and multiple locations across Atlanta, Georgia.

Cory Imig
SCAD alumna Cory Imig (B.F.A., fibers, 2008) has attended residencies at The Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, Vermont; Charlotte Street Foundation Urban Culture Project Studio, Kansas City, Missouri; ACRE Artist Residency, Chicago, Illinois; and Omi International Arts Center, Ghent, New York. Her work has appeared in numerous exhibitions across the U.S., including the Charlotte Street Foundation Project Space; Hardesty Art Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma; ACRE Projects; and the Kansas City Art Institute. She was a 2012 fellow in the Oklahoma Art Writing and Curatorial Fellowship Program, where she worked with leading regional and national curators, critics and academics. From 2012 to 2014, Imig lectured in fibers classes at the Kansas City Art Institute. She is currently completing an M.F.A. degree in sculpture from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

As a center for cultural dialogue, the SCAD Museum of Art engages students through dynamic, interdisciplinary educational experiences. A growing international roster of artists provides opportunities for students from all majors to learn about wide-ranging artistic practices and worldviews. Museum docents are also SCAD students from multifarious degree programs and backgrounds, and conduct extensive research on exhibiting artists and their work to share with museum visitors.

The museum has presented exhibitions by artists including Jane Alexander, Radcliffe Bailey, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Subodh Gupta, Alfredo Jaar, Sigalit Landau, Liza Lou, Ebony G. Patterson, Robin Rhode, Bill Viola, Carrie Mae Weems, Kehinde Wiley and Fred Wilson, as well as site-specific installations by Daniel Arsham, Kendall Buster, Jose Davila, Michael Joo, Odili Donald Odita and others.  Oscar de la Renta and Vivienne Westwood are among previously featured fashion designers; Dakota Jackson and Steven and William Ladd have been the subjects of solo design exhibitions. The museum's permanent collection includes the Walter O. Evans Collection of African American Art, the Modern and Contemporary Art Collection, the Earle W. Newton Collection of British and American Art, the 19th- and 20th-century Photography Collection and the SCAD Costume Collection.

The museum's architecture demonstrates the university's ongoing commitment to historic preservation and adaptive reuse. Originally constructed in 1853 and transformed in 2011 by architect Christian Sottile (M.Arch., 2000; B.Arch., 1997) — a SCAD alumnus and architecture professor — the museum building is a National Historic Landmark and part of the oldest surviving antebellum railroad complex in the U.S. For more information, visit scadmoa.org.
