Bass retired as President and CEO of Autodesk earlier this year, having served in that role since 2006, taking the company from a market cap of $2 billion to $18 billion during his tenure. He has served as an advisor to Zoox since 2016.

"Carl is an accomplished business leader and entrepreneur with a creative soul," said Tim Kentley-Klay, Zoox cofounder, CEO, and co-Chairman of the Board. "As such, Carl gets Zoox implicitly. We are thrilled to have him join our Board of Directors, where his deep business experience will add material value as we realize our mission to bring autonomous mobility to the world."

"Zoox has taken a unique approach to creating autonomous vehicles," Bass said. "I'm very excited to join the Board of Directors and help this genuinely creative company grow as it innovates."

Bass's appointment expands the Zoox Board of Directors to seven. He joins Heidi Roizen, Laurie Yoler, Dan Cooperman, Thomas Tull, and co-Founders Tim Kentley-Klay and Dr. Jesse Levinson.

Bass co-founded Ithaca Software, which was acquired by Autodesk in 1993. During his 24-year tenure at Autodesk, he served in key operational roles across the organization. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Zendesk Inc., Planet, and Autodesk; on the board of trustees of the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Art Center College of Design, and California College of the Arts; and on the advisory boards of Cornell Computing and Information Science, UC Berkeley School of Information, and UC Berkeley College of Engineering.
