DigitalGlobe Adds New, Innovative Partners to Its Rapidly Growing Geospatial Big Data Ecosystem

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 7, 2017DigitalGlobe, Inc. (NYSE: DGI), the global leader in Earth imagery and information about our changing planet, announced the growth of its ecosystem of content producers and consumers who leverage the Company’s Geospatial Big Data analytics platform, GBDX. With this increase in ecosystem partners, GBDX solidified its leadership position.

From Fortune 500 companies, to venture capital-backed startups and government agencies, GBDX has emerged as the platform of choice for organizations seeking to extract actionable insights from geospatial data from various sources. At the heart of GBDX is DigitalGlobe’s 17-year, time-lapse image library, hosted in the Amazon Web Services cloud, where users can leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to answer complex questions at global scale. With DigitalGlobe’s acquisition of data science firm Timbr in October, GBDX moved quickly to simplify the way customers explore the diverse capabilities on the platform while streamlining access for ecosystem and data partners to develop unique, valued-added capabilities.

Today, there are hundreds of enterprising developers building innovative applications and machine learning algorithms on the GBDX platform, and DigitalGlobe’s recently expanded professional services business is adapting large-scale analysis and algorithms to mission-critical applications. Customers using GBDX span a wide array of domains and industries around the world, including business intelligence, scientific research, defense and intelligence, global development, and humanitarian aid.

“GBDX is letting us operate at a scale never before possible,” said Pavel Machalek, CEO of SpaceKnow. “We are seeing great traction in the marketplace for our products and are thrilled to continue to innovate alongside DigitalGlobe and GBDX.”

“CrowdAI is tapping into GBDX to accelerate the creation of breakthrough commercial solutions for emerging technology sectors by leveraging the industry’s leading analytics platform and highest-quality satellite imagery with our human intelligence and deep learning/computer vision tools,” said Nic Borensztein, Co-Founder and CTO of CrowdAI.

In addition to SpaceKnow, CrowdAI, Facebook, and PSMA, several other notable organizations joined the GBDX ecosystem or expanded their commitments in the fourth quarter of 2016:

  • Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) is using DigitalGlobe’s GBDX platform to build new commercial offerings with a focus on extracting precision coordinates and creating 3D maps on country and continent scales from the highest-resolution, most accurate commercial satellite imagery archive on the planet.
  • Video Inform is integrating deep learning algorithms with other machine learning approaches to create its Visual Profiler solution, which quickly detects, interprets and classifies objects of interest in satellite imagery in a short period of time, delivering a new level of actionable information for market and business intelligence products.
  • PrecisionHawk is developing a 3D ground-obstacle database using satellite imagery on GBDX to create a drone air-traffic control system with the hopes of safely integrating commercial and consumer drones in the crowded U.S. airspace.

“DigitalGlobe and our partners have processed and run algorithms against petabytes of data on our platform to create epic solutions never before possible,” said Dr. Shay Har-Noy, DigitalGlobe’s Vice President and General Manager of Platform. “We are committed to extending our industry-leading position, improving the user experience through intuitive APIs and additional integrated, off-the-shelf tools that will continue to expand the platform’s appeal to an even broader set of users.”
