Renesas Electronics Develops Two-Port On-Chip SRAM Specialized in Improving Video Processing Performance of Vehicles for the Autonomous-Driving Era

Renesas’ newly developed two-port SRAM for video data processing succeeds at boosting the operating speed and maintaining stable operation, which were expected to be difficult at more ultrafine process nodes, while also restraining power consumption and reducing the on-chip area. Renesas expects that the new SRAM will make a substantial contribution to improved performance in real-time processing of high-resolution vehicle camera video data for future ADAS and autonomous-driving systems, as well as 3D video data processing for augmented reality (AR) systems that provide the driver with safe and reliable information.

Renesas intends to apply the newly developed SRAM technology in cutting-edge SoCs employing the 16nm FinFET process. By providing these devices with extraordinary speed, Renesas aims to contribute to the creation of a safe, secure, and pleasant driving experience that is environmentally friendly.

Renesas presented the results of its work on the new SRAM technology on June 15 (JST) at VLSI Symposia 2016, which commenced on June 13, 2016, in Hawaii.
