Rentrak Cross-Platform Entertainment Rankings - Sept. 23, 2015

--Only Rentrak Precisely Measures Movies & TV Everywhere--

PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 23, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for Sept. 23, 2015.

Fox's Young Adult action adventure sequel "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" led the global box office this past weekend with $73.6 million, followed by solid performances by Universal's "Everest" with $35.8 million ($28.2 million internationally) and Warner Bros.' "Black Mass" with $24 million in its global debut.

In North American action, Fox's "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" proves that the Young Adult audience is a consistent one at the box office as the latest movie in the franchise opened with $30.3 million and did nearly identical business to the first movie that opened literally one year ago with $32.512 million. Debuting with $22.6 million in second place is a nearly unrecognizable Johnny Depp as James "Whitey" Bulger in Warner Bros.' acclaimed "Black Mass." The R-rated true crime drama boasts a great cast including Joel Edgerton as a corrupt F.B.I. agent John Connolly, who will be on the Oscar radar heading into awards season.

On this week's Movies on Demand chart, Warner Bros.' brilliant "Mad Max: Fury Road," directed by George Miller and featuring a landmark performance by Charlize Theron, took the top spot for the second consecutive week. Lionsgate's well-reviewed "The Age of Adaline," starring Blake Lively, moved up to the second spot while Cameron Crowe's Bradley Cooper comedy "Aloha" landed in the third position.

On our digital purchases and rentals chart, Warner Bros.' "Mad Max 4: Fury Road," now in its fourth week of release, climbed back up the charts and into the number one spot. Fox's "Spy," starring Melissa McCarthy, debuted solidly in its first week of release, landing in the fourth position. Magnolia Pictures' "Steve Jobs: The Man In the Machine," a documentary about the personal and private life of the late Apple CEO, entered the charts in fourteenth place.

It's no surprise that our DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales chart is led by the mega-popular "Mad Max: Fury Road" for the second week in a row. Two new titles also debuted strongly on the chart—Lionsgate's "The Age of Adaline" took the second spot followed by Warner Bros.' "Supernatural: The Complete Tenth Season" in third place.

On the DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals side of the ledger, Warner Bros.' buddy comedy "Hot Pursuit" took first place for a third straight week in its fifth week on the chart followed by Fox's Dreamworks Animation release of "Home" and Sony's comedy "Aloha" in the second and third spots, respectively.

Our top viewer engagement for broadcast telecasts chart is as it always seems, topped by Telemundo's "El Senor de los Cielos," which continues to dominate the category. Univision's "Lo imperdonable" took the second spot followed by Univision's popular "Yo no creo en los hombres."

On our top viewer engagement for cable telecasts chart, TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles" lead the way followed by VH1's always-popular "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" and Lifetime's "Project Runway."

Finally, on our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, the most popular skit this week on Comedy Central's "Key & Peele" was Gremlins 2, which was  uploaded to YouTube and garnered more than one million views. Oz Pearlman's magic was the most  viewed act on YouTube this week for NBC's "America's Got Talent." The video garnered more than 508k views. ESPN's "SportsCenter" uploaded a  photo to Instagram showing Minnesota's tactics on distracting kickers. The Dramatic Chipmunk seems to be working for them, gaining "SportsCenter" more than 118k interactions.
