Maponics Introduces Major Update to Context Crime Scores

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt., Aug. 5, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  Maponics, LLC a leading provider of boundary-based spatial data, today announced the market release of its updated Context Crime Scores product.

Maponics

"The level of safety people anticipate in a neighborhood they're thinking about buying or renting in is a major factor for many," says Mike Villarreal, manager of product marketing and market development at Maponics. "By providing crime scores, realtors and real estate search portals are able to provide an additional level of important information that their customers want."

The improved offering uses data from two sources: the FBI and police departments. The data is used to create national and local crime scores. The FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program, is used to determine the national scores while police reports are used to calculate local scores.

As part of the Maponics Context family of products, Context Crime Scores compliments Maponics boundary data products such as neighborhoods, school attendance zones and postal boundaries. The product delivers another level of knowledge about geographic areas to help real estate companies; developers; business owners and home buyers and sellers, make better-informed decisions.

The product bases scores on a combination of violent crime and property crime data. It uses a score from A+ to F for the national information, while scoring at the local level is on a numeric one to 10 scale, with a score of 1 indicating less crime.

The data available to Maponics Context Crime Scores customers provides a picture of a metropolitan area and the individual neighborhoods found within its boundaries, delivering greater detail analysis. For instance, while the national overall crime grade for San Francisco is a "C," Knob Hill, a well-known neighborhood in that metropolitan area enjoys a score of three, which translates to a low rate of crime in a metropolitan area that has an overall mid-level crime rate.

The data is based on one year's worth of information, meaning it is robust and not skewed by just one or two incidents. Developed based on customer need and feedback, Context Crime Scores will be updated annually.
