Local robotics teams compete - a "FIRST" at next week's MD&M Minneapolis- October 29-30th at the Minneapolis Convention Center

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 24, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —  America's future engineers will connect with world-renown medtech leaders over friendly robotic competition at the  Medical Design and Manufacturing (MD&M) Minneapolis Exposition and Conference on October 29-30th at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The event will highlight local student built robots from the "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology" (FIRST) competition.  FIRST students and mentors will offer information to those curious about the unique organization that encourages teens to pursue science and math related careers and has more teams than hockey teams in Minneapolis. MD&M Minneapolis connects medtech leaders with future generations of engineers, like the youth from the FIRST organization, as part of its commitment to fostering a promising future for next-generation medical device design.

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition Comes to MD&M Minneapolis

"We are excited to showcase four East Metro FIRST Robotics teams to the MD&M participants," stated Mark Gryzwa, Team 3206 (Woodbury HS) Mentor & Program Director, Pain Therapy Stimulation, Medtronic Neuromodulation.  "In FIRST, we are developing future engineering and business leaders through the hardest fun you'll ever have.  This is a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate their talents and get a sense of what careers lie ahead of them."

FIRST teams have just six weeks to build their robot before sending them into 3-on-3 competitions at regional and national levels. This year's MD&M Minneapolis will showcase FIRST teams and their robots from four local schools: the Math and Science Academy Fighting Calculators, the Woodbury High Royal T Wrecks, the East Ridge High ERRORs, and the Park High Databits. Their demonstration will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 3:00-4:00pm in the Center Stage, located on the show floor. Attendees will be eligible to win a Lego Mindstorms kit.

More information about the FIRST program can be found at http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc.

Industry professionals interested in attending the FIRST showcase at MD&M Minneapolis should register to attend today, as space is limited. For more information on the MD&M Minneapolis Exhibition and Conference, please visit MDMminn.com.
