GfK releases new geodata for Thailand

New digital map of Thailand's five-digit postcodes

Bruchsal, September 25, 2014 – GfK has released an updated and expanded edition of its digital maps for Thailand. Digital maps featuring postal and administrative boundaries form the foundation for software-based analyses with a geographic component in geomarketing, GIS, ERP and other database applications.

The new GfK map edition for Thailand encompasses 13 map layers. These include GfK's first-ever map of the country’s 958 five-digit postcodes and 927 districts. Detailed regional and tabular geodata such as GfK's digital maps are the basis for international sales planning. These detailed maps also support risk analyses in the insurance and reinsurance branches, for whom GfK is the official supplier of the CRESTA zone maps.

In addition to two- and five-digit postcodes and administrative regions such as provinces and districts, the new map update also includes up-to-date maps of cities, transportation infrastructure and topographic elements.

"We use satellite and aerial imagery among other techniques to ensure the accuracy of all boundaries and objects," explains Klaus Dittmann, head of cartography at GfK. When maps are used for risk and business analyses, it's crucial that all boundaries offer comprehensive coverage, without any gaps or overlaps. Otherwise errors and inaccuracies result when analyzing and linking data to the maps."

Another important feature of the maps for internationally active companies is the inclusion of both the Thai place names as well as their Latin transcriptions.

Coverage, quality, format
The high-quality maps included in the editions feature comprehensive coverage; gapless, overlap-free boundaries; complete national and local attributions and infinite zoom capability. Like all of GfK's digital maps, the new GfK Thailand Map Edition is available in all standard map formats, including *.shp (ESRI), *.tab (MapInfo), *.gdb (GeoDatabase) and *.lay (GfK). The maps are also available in the Oracle (Spatial) database format for use in Oracle Business Intelligence applications. These maps are part of GfK's worldwide cartographic coverage, which comprises the largest collection of digital administrative and postcode maps available on the market.
