ProTek Devices' New TVS Components Offer High Voltage Spike Circuit Protection in Relay Drives and Motors

TEMPE, Ariz., Sept. 22, 2014 — (PRNewswire) — ProTek Devices today made available a new family of high-powered surface mount transient voltage suppressors (TVS) for high-voltage spike circuit protection applications that include relay drives, motors (start/stop), module lightning protection and for secondary lightning protection. The SM10KW33A and SM10KW36A TVS components provide 8,500 watts of peak pulse power dissipation for a 10/1000 micro second waveform.

The SM10KW33A has a rated stand-off voltage of 33 volts while the SM10KW36A's is 36 volts. Also, the SM10KW33A has a minimum breakdown voltage of 36.8 volts while the SM10KW36A's is 40.0 volts. Maximum clamping voltage for the SM10KW33A is 56.6 volts at 150.0 amps while the SM10KW36A is 60.7 volts at 140.0 amps. Other voltages are available but, customers should contact ProTek Devices or their local distributor for such custom orders. These TVS components are IEC compatible with standards 61000-4-5 (surge): 48A, 8/20 micro seconds - L3 (line-ground), L4 (line-line), and L1 (power). They feature a unidirectional configuration and easy mounting to a printed circuit board. They are also RoHS and REACH compliant.

Both TVS devices are provided in a molded DFN-2-KW surface mount package configuration that provides a low profile and reduced cost. The approximate weight is 2.5 grams. Other mechanical characteristics include lead-free silver plating, a solder reflow temperature of 260-270 degrees Celsius, and a flammability rating of UL 94V-0. Storage and operating temperatures are -55 to +150 degrees Celsius.

Pricing and Availability
ProTek Devices' SM10KW33A and SM10KW36A are now available in mass quantities. Pricing varies by the number of units per order. The parts are available in 2,500 unit minimums in 16 millimeter tape and reel, per EIA standard 481. A data sheet for these transient voltage suppressors can be download from the ProTek Devices website.
