Maker Faire Bay Area 2014 Delivers Unprecedented Program Line-Up Highlighting Maker Movement Growth

SEBASTOPOL, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Apr 29, 2014 -- Maker Faire, happening at the San Mateo Event Center in San Mateo, California, on Saturday, May 17, from 10am to 8pm and Sunday, May 18, from 10am to 6pm, releases today the schedule of speakers and sessions happening at the upcoming event. This year's program is the most content-rich and diverse offered to date. Nowhere else will making-enthusiasts find more in-depth, targeted, and inspiring education about making from the global leaders and experts of the maker movement. Maker Faire Bay Area 2014 is the singular place to learn about making.

"We are so proud of this year's program and what it offers to our audience. The gathering of thought leaders, experts, and innovators -- all makers -- from around the world on so many different topics related to making fully illustrates the reach and diversity of the maker movement," said Dale Dougherty, co-founder of Maker Faire and president of Maker Media. "It's really the premier place for learning about making. And we're thrilled to give our attendees first-hand access to this incredible knowledge base."

From learning how to take an idea to reality with crowdsourcing or venture capital funding to the future of 3D printing to bringing homesteading and food making to new heights, and so much in between, Faire visitors will find the information they're seeking. Eight stages featuring over 200 sessions will illuminate attendees and engage makers of all ages and levels. The full program can be found at http://makerfaire.com/bay-area-2014/schedule/.

As Faire goers have become accustomed to, Maker Faire will offer a number of hands-on learning experiences, including the Learn to Solder area hosted by returning Goldsmith Sponsor, RadioShack Corporation. "RadioShack is excited to be a part of the energy and innovation we see happening within maker communities across the country. We have a passion for partnering with makers and supporting interactive activities like the Learn to Solder area at Maker Faire Bay Area," said RadioShack CEO Joe Magnacca. "As we redesign our stores across the country, we are doing so with the maker in mind. Our new concept stores feature idea stations, interactive areas, and work surfaces where customers can collaborate with each other and our store associates as part of our Do It Together initiative. Makers are part of our history and an important part of our future as well." Maker Faire participants are encouraged to stop by RadioShack's pop-up shop to experience the products the company offers and purchase items at special Maker Faire prices.

About Maker Faire
Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth -- a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It's a place where people of all ages and backgrounds gather together to show what they are making and share what they are learning.

Maker Faire celebrated 100 Faires in 2013 alone and has reached over 1.5 million attendees globally since it launched in San Mateo, California, in 2006, less than a year after the publication of the first MAKE Magazine in 2005. The eighth annual Maker Faire Bay Area welcomed some 950 makers and 120,000 attendees. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in four years to 600+ makers and 75,000 attendees. Detroit, Kansas City, Rome, Oslo, Newcastle (UK), Tokyo and Shenzhen host our "featured" Maker Faires (200+ makers), and community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires inspire and ignite creative communities everywhere around the United States and internationally.

Located in Sebastopol, California, Maker Media has been widely credited with jumpstarting the worldwide Maker Movement, which has been a transforming force in innovation, culture, and education. In addition to publishing MAKE Magazine and producing Maker Faire, Maker Media develops "getting started" kits and books it sells through its Maker Shed store as well as other retail channels.
