Call for Papers for The British Cartographic Society Annual Symposium

The British Cartographic Society annual Symposium announces a call for papers.

January 14, 2014 -- This year marks the society’s 50th symposium taking place at Marwell Hotel, Winchester from Wednesday 25 June to Thursday 26 June 2014. The organisers are seeking papers from anyone involved in maps, including creators, designers, developers, researchers and end users, under the theme ‘Capture, Create and Communicate’.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Extreme mapping – natural disasters, global weirdness and hostile environments

Public service mapping – mapping within local government, major utility and emergency service organisations

Maps for mobile apps – showing latest developments

Planes, trains and automobiles – travel guides, journey planners, navigational guides encompassing all things travel

Derived mapping from remote sensing technologies – capture techniques through to final applications

Open source tools – illustrating the benefits and challenges faced when using open source products and services

This is not an exhaustive list as we welcome papers that also illustrate innovative, cartographic techniques, technological advancements, current research as well as mapping-based case studies used in all sectors of society. Submissions are encouraged from all organisations including research, commercial and public sector.

Successful submissions will be notified by Thursday 27 February 2014.The papers selected will be given on either Wednesday 25 June or Thursday 26 June 2014.
