Now OEMs Can Quickly and Cost-Effectively Add Virtualization and TEE Capabilities to their Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC Platforms
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 29, 2012 — (PRNewswire) —SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Sierraware, the embedded virtualization company, today announced that it has collaborated with Xilinx to bring Open Virtualization's SierraTEE and SierraVisor software to Xilinx® Zynq™-7000 All Programmable SoCs. With this release, designers building systems based on the Zynq-7000 devices can take advantage of the world's first integrated, open source Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) and hypervisor.
The Zynq-7000 family of devices combines the software programmability of a processor with the hardware programmability of an FPGA, resulting in unrivaled levels of system performance, flexibility, scalability while providing system benefits in terms of power reduction, lower cost with fast time-to- market. By collaborating with Sierraware, Xilinx has extended its ecosystem to include the Open Virtualization Project's SierraTEE and SierraVisor open source SDKs.
Open Virtualization's SierraTEE allows devices to run a secure operating system and a normal, high-level operating system at the same time. SierraTEE protects confidential data like DRM-protected content, encryption keys, and passwords from malicious attacks and malware. It is the leading open source (GPL) hypervisor for ARM® TrustZone® security technology and it conforms to the GlobalPlatform TEE specifications. SierraTEE has been designed for a wide range of products that require trusted virtualization, such as set-top boxes, military radios, wireless and wired routers, mobile phones and other consumer devices.
With SierraVisor, Xilinx customers can run multiple guest operating systems, including Linux, BSD, Android and legacy real-time operating systems, at the same time. SierraVisor leverages the ARM TrustZone security extensions to provide greater performance than a standard paravirtualization hypervisor. The SierraVisor and SierraTEE software can be used together to run multiple TEEs concurrently or to run a TEE instance for each paravirtualized operating system instance.
"The Zynq-7000 family represents a new paradigm in processor-based system designs and the integration of programmable logic with a high performance dual-core architecture open new possibilities to designers," said Gopu Subramanian, CTO of Sierraware. "We are pleased to be working with the Xilinx team. Our ability to provide out-of-the-box support for Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoCs will help Xilinx customers to rapidly add virtualization and ARM TrustZone support to their products."
"The availability of SierraVisor and SierraTEE enables Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC developers to design products that offer increased data security and task isolation. Sierraware's open source licensing and commercial support provide a level of flexibility that has been previously unavailable," said Mark Jensen, director, platform design methodologies marketing at Xilinx.
