Richmond, VA – July 20, 2011 – Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial consulting and application development, recently completed the Wisconsin Forest Inventory and Reporting System (WisFIRS) GIS for Public Land Management Application. WisFIRS is a Web-based application which allows foresters to enter, plan and report on core business functions related to forest reconnaissance data on more than 3.8 million acres of Wisconsin’s public forests.
On June 6, 2011, the companion geospatial web application was released to work in concert with the earlier WisFIRS Public Lands tabular application. This new release creates a powerful analytical and visual tool that allows users to query data, display results, and use in conjunction with supplemental road, hydrology, survey and aerial data. This application is part of a monumental effort on behalf of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry to integrate not only the Public Lands Management activities, but ultimately all management activities on private land through the Tax Law and Stewardship Programs.
”We have just completed training of over 200 field foresters, where the application is being met with a lot of enthusiasm. These tools allow staff to more efficiently manage the forest lands of Wisconsin,” expressed Janel Pike, WisFIRS Project Manager.
The WisFIRS application is used by hundreds of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) staff and County Forest partners and allows them to be more efficient in public forest management and timber sale administration. The management of these properties produces annual revenues of approximately $12 million to the State of Wisconsin, and $30 million collectively to the counties.
