GeoImaging Accelerator (GXL) Technology Sold to China’s Institute of Remote Sensing Applications (IRSA)

RICHMOND HILL, Ontario, Canada—May 18, 2011: PCI Geomatics, a world leading developer of geo-imaging software and systems, announced it has been  awarded a contract to deliver a GeoImaging Accelerator (GXL) Satellite processing system to China’s Institute of Remote Sensing Applications (IRSA).

The GXL system includes support for three commercial high resolution optical satellite sensors, and the ability to generate orthorectified tiled mosaic products at high speed using PCI’s multi-threaded and GPU enabled technology. The GXL-Satellite system will consist of locally procured off-the-shelf hardware integrated with PCI’s GeoImaging Accelerator-Satellite high volume multi-CPU/GPU production software. The complete system will enable the customer to transform uncorrected Level 1 frame based data from multiple satellite sensors into thousands of orthorectified and mosaicked products on a monthly basis.

The adoption of PCI’s GXL system by IRSA underscores the need for high speed, automated image processing capability to help researchers focus on the development of new applications, freeing up resources that are typically applied towards time consuming image pre-processing tasks.

The Deputy Director of IRSA, Professor Wang said: "GXL is a revolutionary image automation processing system for large projects. We believe GXL will enhance our automated image automatic product line, to provide better processing for larger projects”.

Yubin Xin, General Manager of PCI’s China operations at PCI Geomatics commented on the announcement: “We are pleased to have won this important contract for our GXL-Satellite technology, and to offer leading edge technology to IRSA. Our customer has recognized the value of high speed, multi-sensor image processing as it relates automating time consuming image pre-processing tasks. Our technology will provide the IRSA the ability to generate standardized products and help them address operational production challenges in a timely manner."
