MapQuest Provides “Play-by-Play” Directions to Big-Game Goers

Sixth Winter Storm Sends Dallas-bound Drivers Into Alternative Travel Planning

DENVER — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 2, 2011 — MapQuest, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of AOL Inc. (NYSE: AOL), has made travel-planning for the Big Game on Feb. 6 just a little bit more enjoyable with “Play-by-Play” directions on MapQuest.com that deliver football fanatics to their destination in a memorable way.

“Weather tends to have a ripple effect and can disrupt every aspect of a journey, which is why MapQuest’s goal has always been to provide options to would-be travelers,” said Ann Koerner, director, consumer products, MapQuest. “In this case, we felt it necessary to give a nod to the great get-togethers happening across the country for the Big Game.”

To experience “Play-by-Play,” visitors to Mapquest.com need only follow the below instructions:

  • First, under the flag drop-down menu in the top right corner, select “Play-by-Play” directions
  • Second, click on the directions icon
  • Lastly, enter starting and ending points

Play-by-Play includes a variety of football-inspired directions such as:

  • Instructional:
    • “Take the field, heading NORTH….”
    • “Flea-flicker reverse heading EAST…”
  • Helpful hints:
    • “If you reach 47th Street, you have overthrown the receiver and need to go back.”
  • Warnings:
    • “Watch out for the sideline wall.”
  • Arrival:
    • “Victory is yours!”

The majority of MapQuest directional inquiries are for trips less than 50 miles, so the “Play-by-Play” needed to be designed for every trip length. The feature is currently live on MapQuest.com and will be available through Monday, Feb. 7.
