UK local authority Tamworth Borough Council is set to transform its services to the public with a new system that gives rapid access to information held in different council computer systems. The Gazetteer Management Software from GGP Systems, which is designed to improve frontline services, links information together using a centralised database of all properties, land and streets.
The software; GGP NGz, will be used to manage the Council’s Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG). The Gazetteer is part of a national, definitive address database that provides a unique ID for every single property in England and Wales and allows different public information to be connected together and shared. It will also be used to improve the accuracy of records and integrate address data for Council Revenue including Council Tax and Non Domestic Rates, and the Council’s Electoral Register in time for 2011 Census.
“Through the use of GGP NGz we will be able to deliver services more effectively,” commented Jon McDevitt, Corporate GIS Manager, Tamworth Borough Council. “Frontline staff will be able to look up and verify addresses and, following integration with a number of existing systems, access a wealth of property related information with just a few clicks of the mouse or a couple of key strokes.”
Tamworth Borough Council had a vision for the development and integrated use of their LLPG data that was simply not viable with their existing software infrastructure. A Statement of Requirements was drafted, which in turn evolved into a tender document published through the In-Tend procurement website. Four software suppliers responded and each company was invited to make a presentation of their solution to the Product Team.
“The Project Team selected GGP NGz as the functionality of the solution met all our requirements while offering good value,” continued McDevitt. “The support for the product seemed excellent and some cold calling of existing GGP customers provided unanimously positive feedback.”
GGP NGz software ensures that all property based information within an organisation is consistent, up to date and accurate. GGP NGz also manages the import and export of data between the local authority databases and the national NLPG hub. Users of GGP NGz scooped five out of six awards at the 2010 NLPG Exemplar Awards.
