UKMap’s User Base Continues to Grow

Cambridge, 6 October 2010: Since its release last November UKMap’s user base has seen continued growth throughout both business and government sectors.

UKMap, the innovative, large-scale mapping suite created independently of Ordnance Survey, has already been invested in by a large number of clients including two London-wide organisations, London Fire and Forest Research, and three local authorities namely London Borough’s of Harrow, Brent and Islington.

In some instances, the purchase of UKMap is in addition to a client’s existing Ordnance Survey licence because it provides a significant amount of supplementary features, such as road markings, residential outbuildings, 3D buildings, trees and retail information. Furthermore, the ability to pick and choose data layers specifically required for a project demonstrates the flexible purchasing options available for this mapping suite.

UKMap data is capable of supporting professionals within a vast range of applications from undertaking health studies within schools to updating grass maintenance programmes and locating the distribution of residences above retail units. Meanwhile, London Fire is using the data to identify potentially high-risk contamination sites and Forest Research is exploring the impact of climate change on the UK’s urban tree population.

Alun Jones, Managing Director for The GeoInformation Group, remarked, “We are extremely excited by the continuing success of UKMap over the last 12 months. Its success, we believe, is down to many aspects not least its versatility and value for money. Clients also like the idea that they have the rights to retain any derived data they may create through using UKMap. Not only does this increase an organisation’s corporate assets but also reduces their overall costs. With cost savings paramount in today’s economic climate UKMap is proving a solid investment choice”.
