Esri Releases ArcGIS API for iOS

Build and Deploy Custom iPhone and iPad Apps within an Enterprise or via the Apple App Store

Redlands, California — October 11, 2010 — Today, Esri released the ArcGIS API for the Apple iOS platform. It is available at no cost from the Esri Resource Center. ArcGIS API for iOS enables developers to build applications that use the powerful mapping, geocoding, geoprocessing, and editing capabilities that ArcGIS Server provides.

The API is designed to use Web services available from ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online. Users of the platform can access dynamic, tiled, and image map services; overlay graphics; search and identify features; locate addresses; collect and update data; and perform GIS analysis. The API enables organizations to build and deploy solutions that extend to a wider market via the App Store. Developers and Esri partners can also use the API to create applications for both external and internal use.

ArcGIS API for iOS contains

  • Native Objective-C libraries
  • Integrated documentation, sample applications, and templates
  • Conceptual and reference guide help
  • Community resources including code galleries, forums, and blogs
