AEDI website shortlisted in the year’s Australia and New Zealand Internet Best Practice Awards
London , England, 6th October 2010 The website for the Australian Early Development Index (AEDI) has been shortlisted as a finalist in this years Australia and New Zealand Internet Best Practice Awards.
The website uses InstantAtlasTM data presentation software to map information about how communities have supported the development of their children before school. The results are presented in A Snapshot of Early Childhood Development in Australia: AEDI National Report 2009 http://maps.aedi.org.au/
The AEDI results cover 98 per cent of Australia’s five year-olds and provide communities with a snapshot of the development of their children across the following key areas of early childhood development:
- Physical health and wellbeing
- Social competence
- Emotional maturity
- Language and cognitive skills (school-based)
- Communication skills and general knowledge
Megan Harper, GIS Analyst, AEDI says: “This is great news for the AEDI and it shows how important the use of data presentation has become. We are currently updating all our files and are incorporating a new InstantAtlas feature that uses Google Maps. The new series of reports will be ready in December 2010.”
Increased interest in the visual communication of location-based statistical data has been reflected in a 14% growth in the number of unique visitors to the InstantAtlas website ( www.instantatlas.com) and the number of free trial downloads (up by 40 per cent year on year).
