City of Novi, MI using Amazon Cloud to Host ArcGIS Server 10 Silverlight Application

June 14, 2010 -- The City of Novi, MI teamed with Geographic Information Services, Inc. (GISi), an ESRI Business Partner, to develop one of the first ArcGIS 10, Amazon Cloud hosted applications. This Internet Mapping portal provides a wealth of geospatial information to its residential and business community, supporting public service delivery 24/7. The City and GISi migrated its current ArcIMS environment to ESRI’s ArcGIS Server 10 (to be released June 21) platform using the ArcGIS API for Microsoft Silverlight™ version 2.0.

The Amazon EC2 Cloud hosted, secure environment provides the City with the flexibility to portray 50 map layers representing 10 content themes of interrelated information. The application provides the public has on-demand access to timely, relevant, and accurate information ranging from community and economic development, recreation opportunities, land ownership interests, ordinances, voting precincts, and public safety incidents. The City of Novi is poised to leverage its ArcGIS Server investment by actively responding to the expectations businesses and community leaders expect and demand from Gov 2.0 offerings (government applications that facilitate interactive information sharing).

Resources like the City’s Internet Mapping Portal reflect the type of investments it is making to ensure a vibrant business climate exists for promoting the growth of existing businesses as well as attracting new investment within the community.
