Energy Sector Customers Gain Easy Access to Premium Terrain Data Through Integration of Reliable Countrywide NEXTMap Elevation Data and Geometric Images
DENVER & CALGARY, Alberta — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 8, 2010 — Spatial Energy, the leading source for digital imagery and services within the energy industry, and Intermap Technologies, a worldwide 3D digital mapping and geospatial solutions company, today announced at the 2010 Global Petroleum Show in Calgary the integration of NEXTMap high-resolution countrywide elevation data into Spatial on Demand – the world’s largest energy-specific online database.
Spatial on Demand is an enterprise geospatial data hosting application used to store, access, query, and retrieve a company’s corporate geospatial data, as well as other energy-specific datasets. Sold as an annual subscription, Spatial on Demand provides customers easy access to the portal and streaming services, and the ability to store existing images and new investments.
The Spatial on Demand application also allows customers to quickly identify the availability of elevation data for a particular area of interest and order it directly from their desktop. The portal streamlines both the ordering and delivery of data – as it is stored in the Spatial on Demand database where anyone on the client end can easily access it as their needs dictate.
“With four of the five Fortune 100 oil and gas companies trusting Spatial on Demand with their geospatial imagery assets, it’s a natural extension to enable these same customers easy access to the only nationwide, uniformly accurate digital elevation models available,” stated Bud Pope, Spatial Energy’s president. “Our customers fully understand the tremendous value 3D data provides for exploration, transportation, transmission, and other planning activities. It is our goal to streamline the access, provisioning, and management of NEXTMap data from Intermap to accomplish this goal.”
Intermap’s countrywide NEXTMap datasets include uniformly reliable digital surface models (DSMs) that include cultural features (such as vegetation, buildings, and roads), digital terrain models (DTMs) that display the bare earth (with all cultural features digitally removed) and orthorectified radar images (ORIs) corrected to remove normal geometric distortions (grayscale images that accentuate topographic features).
“We are excited to extend our partnership with Spatial Energy by extending access to our NEXTMap product set through their powerful Spatial on Demand Web portal,” commented David Cunningham, Intermap’s senior vice president of sales & marketing. “With more than 10 million km2 of data to choose from, energy companies worldwide will finally be able to quickly provision accurate elevation data to meet their ever growing needs surrounding spatial management and engineering planning.”
