June 01, 2010 -- 3D Laser Mapping, the international developer of laser scanning solutions, has appointed Francois Stroh to the position of Global Mining Product Manager. Stroh, an engineering surveyor with more than ten years experience of laser scanning sales, installation, training and support, will have responsibility for 3D Laser Mappings global mining division. Stroh will be based in South Africa close to the company’s existing client base and will oversee the continued growth of laser scanning hardware and software, including 3D Laser Mapping’s leading mine monitoring solution SiteMonitor.
“Francois brings with him a wealth of experience gained during ten plus years of working with laser scanning hardware and software across Africa,” commented Dr Graham Hunter, Managing Director of 3D Laser Mapping. “This experience combined with an extensive array of personal contacts makes him the perfect choice to support both our existing client base and our continued global expansion.”
Stroh qualified as a surveyor in the early nineties achieving a National Diploma in Civil Surveying from the Pretoria University of Technology, a qualification he later built on with a bridge course to a Bachelor of Technology Degree. He started his professional surveying career with the South African Navy before going on to work with a number of commercial surveying companies including Murray and Roberts, Underwater Surveys and Tritan Survey of Cape Town.
In 1999 Stroh began his commercial association with laser scanning working for a succession of manufacturer distributors before, most recently, being appointed as HDS Product Specialist for Hexagon, a global technology company and parent company of Leica Geosystems. “This appointment is a great opportunity for me to realise the potential of SiteMonitor not only in Africa but across the world. It will be great to be at the cutting edge of product development communicating end user requirements direct to the development team,” commented Stroh.
