May 21, 2010 -- 1Spatial is pleased to announce the company’s sponsorship of the forthcoming International Standards committee for Geographic Information ISO/TC 211 meeting at the Ordnance Survey Great Britain (OSGB) headquarters in Southampton from 24th to 28th May.
The International Standards committee for Geographic Information ISO/TC 211 meeting is the 30th meeting of its kind. It will comprise a formal plenary session for official delegations along with meetings of standards development project teams. More than 100 delegates from all around the world will attend the event.
International standards in the ISO 19100 series are fundamental to national and international co-operation on the environment, defence, transport and communications. The INSPIRE Directive mandates their use within the EU and many global initiatives rely on the interoperability of spatial datasets that the standards seek to deliver.
In addition to the main meeting, there will be a free Interoperability Workshop that will be open to non-delegates on Monday 24th. As part of this workshop 1Spatial’s Dr Matthew Beare will be presenting a paper entitled Data Quality Evaluation – the ESDIN experience. This presentation will discuss how data quality can build upon standards, using the European Spatial Data Infrastructure with a Best Practice Network (ESDIN) project as a real-life example.
Dr Matthew Beare, Business Systems Analyst at 1Spatial, commented:
“Data quality is an integral part of the 1Spatial philosophy and events such as this one are vital in bringing communities together to understand the opportunities that standards provide for the automated reuse of data. Being able to contribute and share our experiences in creating new knowledge from existing, high quality data for the benefit of others is an exciting opportunity.”
