Navimatics Charts&Tides+, the first full resolution, seamless charting app for iPad and iPhone, now supports tens of thousands of user generated POI's from the popular ActiveCaptain website.
Kirkland, WA / May 19, 2010. Navimatics Corporation has released to the AppStore the latest version of Charts&Tides+, providing full resolution, seamless charting support for the iPad and now full, integrated, offline, and synchronized support for ActiveCaptain Points of Interest (POI) data. Combining marine navigation with ActiveCaptain's comprehensive interactive cruising guidebook provides an important companion to every boater's helm.
ActiveCaptain is an online interactive guidebook containing tens of thousands of marinas, anchorages, hazards, bridges, boat ramps and much more, plus user reviews and comments. "Navimatics has done an incredible integration with our data," states Jeffrey Siegel, co-founder of the ActiveCaptain website. "Using the Charts&Tides product is like having our entire website in your pocket and always available."
Combining the navigation features of Charts&Tides+ with an online cruising guide makes the iPhone or iPad the perfect addition to every boat's helm. "Charts&Tides+ makes the perfect companion to an onboard navigation system.," commented Bill Zissimopoulos, president of Navimatics. "It offers a secondary navigation solution for backup and alternate views, and now with the addition of ActiveCaptain POI data a boater will always know where they are and what's up ahead."
The ActiveCaptain service is free and is available at
http://www.activecaptain.com. A free account will give users full access to the ActiveCaptain guidebook. The entire database of ActiveCaptain data is downloaded to the iPhone/iPad and is then available for use on the water without an Internet connection. When a connection is available, users can synchronize with the website ensuring they have the most recent information.
Charts&Tides+ features include marine chart data from NOAA Electronic Navigational Charts, bathymetric and topographic data from the NOAA Coastal Relief Model, tide harmonics data for real-time tide and current computation and access to NDBC weather stations for current weather conditions. The product uses the device's built-in GPS (when available) to provide location information and navigation guidance while on the water. Charts&Tides+ is offered for 3 different US regions (West Coast, East Coast and Gulf Coast) and retails for $19.99 each. A single license allows users to run the software on their iPhone and their iPad.
