Sudbury, ON - April 28, 2010 - ESRI Canada today presented an Award of Excellence to Domtar's Forest Products Group for its success in implementing an enterprise geographic information system (GIS) to improve forest operations management. The award was given at the 2010 ESRI Canada User Conference in Sudbury.
"Domtar has been a leader in its enterprise approach to leveraging GIS technology," said Alex Miller, President, ESRI Canada. "Its example effectively demonstrates how ESRI solutions can be implemented throughout an organization to help users share information, resources and applications and collectively improve operations and business results."
The system aids in protecting forest values such as wildlife, flora, water resources, tourism and natural heritage; and managing assets including bridges, culverts, roads and signs. The company also uses ArcGIS to support forest certification applications, regulatory reporting and publishing forest management plans over the Web for public consultation.
