Polar Explorer to address leading GIS professionals
April 19, 2010 — ESRI UK today announces that polar explorer Pen Hadow, Director of GeoMission and Survey Director of Catlin Arctic Survey, will present at its Annual Conference in London starting on 10th May 2010. Pen’s speech will focus on the challenge for today's explorers to provide geographic information from inaccessible environments in order to better understand the natural world.
Pen Hadow commented:
"Modern technology may have given us the gift of observing our planet from space, but it is the immense power offered by tools such as geographic information systems which have provided us with the ability to model, understand and demonstrate how our activity affects the environment."
The ESRI UK Annual Conference 2010, entitled: ‘Shaping your Vision’, is a two‐day event which will explore how geographic information systems (GIS) technology can improve decision‐making across organisations and the wider community. The event aims to attract over 500 delegates across the public and private sector interested in future applications of GIS technology. In addition to plenary presentations from visionary business and government leaders, the event will also feature a key note speech from Lord Digby Jones, former Director General of the CBI, and a technology showcase, introducing ArcGIS 10, ESRI’s major new software release.
Richard Waite, Managing Director, ESRI UK, commented:
““We are looking forward to hearing Pen’s view on how he, as an explorer, can gain a deeper understanding of the environment and how in the future, his interpretation of GIS data can add value to his exploration missions. We hope that delegates at our leading GIS event will be inspired by his exciting background as a polar explorer, his commitment to the fight against climate change and his unique first‐hand experiences of the Polar region.
Delegates attending can share knowledge and insights with their peers, and ESRI UK industry and technology specialists, from a range of market sectors, including: local and central government, defence and national security, utilities, telecommunications, public safety and the private sector. The conference will feature a focus on GIS capability, addressing cross‐sector functions across enterprises.
